Hi! I’m Suraj (He/Him). I’m a current high school senior from Atlanta, GA, and I am so excited to be building Asians in the Arts with all these amazing people! Outside of AitA, I’m involved in theatre and Gender-Sexuality Alliance at school. Baotran Truong

She can be found with her Australian shepherd at dog parks throughout Los Angeles. Always looking to consume more books, preferably while under a fuzzy blanket as one of her spotify playlists plays in the background.

Jaden Chee

Jaden is a high school student based in Massachusetts. Jaden is a photographer and musician who occasionally writes poetry, and feels strongly about too many humanitarian issues. She handmade earrings and knit hats in her spare time to raise money for various charities, and reads and alarming number of webtoons and drinks a little too many matcha lattes.

Grace Vo

Grace is a working artist based in Massachusetts. Grace likes to paint abstractly but is also into mixed media. She just launched her own scrunchie shop called Up&Down where she sells handmade vintage/thrifted scrunchies! In her free time, Grace likes to play animal crossing and cook. A big fan of a good rainbow roll and a crunchy banh xeo.

Queer East Asian diaspora from Spain. I enjoy dissecting media culture through a critical lens. Interested in social justice, critical race studies, queer theory, affect theory, disability studies, coloniality and building anti-racist movements within the Asian communities. Also, I’d also like to put some light on Asian artists beyond the US; particularly from Spain. During my free time, I am either eating, sleeping, playing computer games, reading or watching some TV show. Overall, my best time is when I’m spending it with my friends; laughing, talking, discussing or just eating hot pot together.

I’m Kirsten Magbanua, a Filipino first gen Asian American! I’m an artist, more specifically: an animator. I love all things film and I have a deep interest in pre colonial Filipino culture, and would love to one day show that interest in stories all over the world through animation. But to get to that point: first comes representation and breakthroughs for Asians in the arts. As an Initiative team member, I help organize events and projects to give people like us to have acknowledgement and opportunity to show what we can do.

Sue Van Phan
Initiative Team Member
(She/Her/Hers) Hi! I’m Sue – Chinese-American, born and raised in Boston, MA. Ever since when I was little I always enjoy acting, singing and dancing. Aside from that, I also enjoy coloring as well as drawing. I came to a realization that I’m passionate in creating and storytelling within the Asian American community. As an artist I hope to create innovative stories that connect people to one another and learn more about each other cultures and journeys. During my free times I enjoy writing plays and hopefully, I can produce some of the plays that I wrote in the near future.

Angie Orbeta
Staff Artist
Hi! I’m Angie, a Filipina artist currently studying animation. Raised in America my whole life, I’ve been meaning to tap more into my Asian background and learn more about different Asian cultures in general. I feel especially grateful that I can be a staff artist for Asian in the Arts because I can connect with myself on a cultural level by doing what I love most- which is art! When I’m not creating I enjoy dancing, listening to music, and geeking out over my favorite shows and movies ( and sometimes even drawing fanart too! )
